We’re off & running on our quest to adopt-a-family this Christmas! Your purchase of a pin-up girl ornament will help buy food, home goods, and 1-2 special toys for 2 Santa Cruz County kids and a mom who’s down on her luck.

We’re partnering with the SC Volunteer Center who fully vets out families to be sure we’re helping those who really need it.

Join us in our quest! We still have some awesome one-of-a-kind pin-up ornaments for you!

We just donated to the Campaign for Local Power

I heard about this clever, powerful grassroots campaign from my good friend Anthony — check it out! They have such a great idea for clean, affordable energy that they’ve ***surpassed*** their fundraising goal by over $125,000. Just made a donation on behalf of Pin-ups for the Planet™ anyways, ’cause this is important stuff!

Where do you draw the line?

Posted by on Aug 24, 2013 in How to Be a Hot and Sexy Lady! | 4 comments

I’m in the midst of a dilemma and I’d love to get your insights… but first, THANK YOU!

Last week I asked you which resource you’d want most. The votes are in with Option C (3 Secrets on How to Look Beautiful in Photos, even if You’re Camera Shy) in 1st place. If you voted, even if it wasn’t for Option C, thank you so much! Your voice matters to me.

So, now darling, where do you draw the line?

In regards to the way you look, how you groom yourself, and how you present yourself to the world — where do you draw the line between…

“I’m NOT leaving the house looking like this,” and
“YES, I’m ready to be seen, ’cause I look amazing!”?

When is it okay to present the real, raw, no makeup, imperfect you?

When is it better to present the polished, plucked, glossed, ironed-clothes you?

Did you notice the words I used to ask those questions?
They’re a dead giveaway as to how I’m feeling lately.

“When is it okay to be imperfect?”
Sounds like I’m asking for permission.

Do you ever wish someone would give you a permission slip that reads, “Today you have permission to stop trying to look perfect. The people who matter will love you anyway. Enjoy your day off.”

I didn’t plan on doing this, but today I’m officially granting you (and me) that permission slip:

Image: your permission slip

Feel free to share, tag, pin, tweet, and tumblr the heck outta this baby.

I do believe that it is important to spend time improving yourself, and cultivating/presenting the best version of yourself. I also think it’s important to let yourself be imperfect along the way, and to be vulnerable. To have spinach stuck in your teeth every once in a while… 🙂

What do you think?

Do you ever feel like you’re pushing yourself
too much to look and be perfect?

Do you ever feel like you don’t put in
as much effort as you would like?

Leave me a comment below and let me know your thoughts. I’m here and ready to join you in the conversation.

JanelleWith love, love, and more love,

Janelle

PS. These questions are on my mind because I’ve been working on the next era of Pin-ups for the Planet™. A new look is coming, as well as new offerings, and a really cool program I think will knock your socks off. I’m working on some new videos that will showcase all this new stuff, and I noticed I’m getting anxious about them “looking perfect.” So I’m trying to strike a balance between being well-groomed & polished while not driving myself crazy trying to meet impossible standards of perfection. I’m livin’ this stuff, too — that’s why I want to hear from you on this topic!

You’re Invited: “Rising” Party! (high-quality goods & a $50 gift certificate just for showing up!)

Please RSVP HERE!

Come Party!

Giving gifts this holiday season? Here’s an opportunity to have your spending benefit low-income business women and artisans in some of the most dangerous regions in the world, as well as the women here in your own neighborhood!

I am hostessing a Rising International home-shopping party on Sunday, December 16th from 6-8pm, at Pin-ups for the Planet™ headquarters in Santa Cruz, California. I am giving free $50 Pin-ups for the Planet™ gift certificates to everyone who attends, no purchase necessary! (Can’t attend live? See “Virtual Party!” below.)

Rising International is a non-profit organization based here in Santa Cruz, California. I had the pleasure of photographing their Hands of Hope celebration in October, where I learned about their mission to end extreme world poverty in this lifetime. They partner with women in the harshest regions, who are working to improve the lives of their families and the conditions of their communities. These women make the most incredible, high-quality goods — like gold jewelry, silk bags and toys, beaded accessories, even the most gorgeous woven collars and leashes for your beloved pets! (Examples below!)

Come support this cause, and get a free $50 Pin-ups for the Planet™ gift certificate — just for showing up, no purchase necessary.

Please RSVP HERE!

Learn more about Rising International in this short video. You’ll get the idea by watching from minute 1:10 until minute 3:00, but you are welcome to enjoy the full 7 minutes if you like.

Product Examples!

Bracelets and earrings are available for as low as $5. Most products range between $15 and $50, with average purchases being $35. While all goods are of the utmost quality (they amazed me in person!), some very high-end products are available over the $100 mark. Here are some examples for you:

Virtual Party!

For those of you who cannot attend live on December 16th in Santa Cruz, I am doing a Virtual Party starting TODAY through December 23rd, 2012. Here’s how it works:

1) Simply visit the Rising International Online Store to make your purchases. (Though, if you come to the live event you will see an even greater selection of products!) You may also get Rising Int. Gift Certificates, or simply make a donation.

2) Email me so I can count you as a participant! Let’s see how big we can make this! I can be reached at janelle@pinupsfortheplanet.com.

3) Get a free $50 Pin-ups for the Planet gift certificate when you include a copy of your receipt in your email. No purchase or donation is too small! (No purchase necessary to get a free gift certificate when you come to the live party.)

If you are attending the Virtual Party, please RSVP on Facebook AND comment on the wall: “I’m going to the Virtual Party!” (that way I’ll have a proper attendance count for the live event). THANK YOU!!!

You’re Totally Worth a Fresh Tea Bag…

or a clean shirt, or a new notebook, or fabulous hair

The following is a guest post by the amazing Australian Lucky Bitch herself, Denise Duffield-Thomas! The stars aligned not more than two months ago and I had the good fortune to discover Denise and her amazing stories & teachings found on her freebies page. Read her article below and then go check out her goodies yourself on her website! ~ Janelle

Photo of Denise Duffield-Thomas by Viv WardOprah said something recently that stuck with me. Apparently rich people still sniff their workout shirts to see if they can wear them again (just like us!). She realised she was doing it one day and said to herself, “I deserve to wear a fresh, clean shirt. I’m worth it.”

Now, Oprah can afford to change her clothes every hour if she wants to, but it’s not about the shirt. It’s about treating yourself like you matter.

I told this story at my recent workshop, “Uncover Your Brilliance, Manifest Your Ideal Life” because I utterly believe that great success comes down to self-worth. You show other people how to treat you by the way you treat yourself but you also send a very strong message to the Universe that you deserve and are ready for more. (more…)

Where’d Her Self Esteem Go? + How to Get it Back (Part 3)

Posted by on May 21, 2012 in How to Be a Hot and Sexy Lady! | Comments Off on Where’d Her Self Esteem Go? + How to Get it Back (Part 3)

Today’s article is the final installment of a 3-part guest post by Karen Schachter of Dishing with your Daughter. Karen’s mission is to help moms and their daughters to value & nourish themselves, to love their bodies, and to trust their intuition — so, of course, you can see why I’ve been a huge fan of her work since the moment I discovered her. 🙂

In Parts 1, 2, and 3 of this article, you will discover how and when most young girls begin to lose their self-confidence, AND over 15 ways you as a mom (or other positive role model) can help them to recover their high self-esteem.

And PSSSST, here’s a secret! All of the tips Karen shares can be used to boost *your* self-esteem, too! Pick a couple to try, and let me know how it works for you in the comments below!

Where’d Her Self-Esteem Go? (+ 17 Ways to Save It or Get It Back)

by Karen Schachter

Photo by BrothertonI’ve created a list of 17 ideas for you to incorporate into your daughter’s life to help maintain – or build – a healthy self-esteem. These go way deeper than telling her she’s beautiful or smart, or reassuring her when she feels like no one likes her. But they are also not a magic pill…like anything worth doing, supporting and building your daughter’s self-esteem is an ongoing job.
